Do you provide treatment for other issues or just trauma and PTSD?

I offer treatment for a wide variety of issues, including trauma and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I have specialized and extensive training in the treatment of trauma and PTSD in both military and civilian populations as well as the treatment of chemical dependency and anxiety disorders. I also provide treatment for anxiety, depression, anger, addictions, relationship issues, professional and work issues, and other personal problems and life changes issues.

Do you prescribe medication and will I need to take medication?

No. A psychiatrist prescribes medication. For some conditions medication and psychotherapy work best. If I determine that you will benefit from medication, I will provide you with a referral to a psychiatrist for an evaluation. Some people prefer to take medication and others do not. It is your choice and I will respect and work with whichever decision you make.

You require patients to provide a credit card number does this mean I must pay with my credit card?

No. You are not required to pay for services with your credit card. I accept credit card payments as a convenience to my patients. You may pay for services by cash, check or credit card.

I do ask all patients to maintain a valid credit card number on file, even you choose not to pay by credit card. If you choose not to pay by credit card, I will only charge your credit card if you ask me to or if you have an outstanding balance and you have not made arrangements with me to pay your balance. I have found that allowing an account to accrue a large balance interferes with treatment and can have a detrimental impact on the patient.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you provide me with 24 hours or less notice that you will be canceling, or simply do not show for the appointment, you are responsible for the full cash fee or insurance fee if using insurance. You can avoid a cancellation fee if we are able to reschedule your appointment to another time during the same week. Depending upon my schedule, my ability to reschedule may be limited. You are never charged if I must cancel an appointment.

Do you accept HMO insurance plans?

I accept HMO plans for those insurance companies that I am contracted with. In general, HMO plans do not offer out-of-network benefits and you will be required to pay 100% of the fees. You should always verify your mental heath benefits coverage before you seek treatment to avoid unnecessary expenses.

I have a PPO plan and you are not in my insurance network. Will you accept my insurance payments?

I accept most PPO plans. Usually the amount you pay for treatment from me, an out-of-network provider of your choice, is the same amount you pay to see an in-network provider. Generally, we will accept your insurance payment and your normal copay for services— the same as an in-network provider. We will submit the claims for you saving you the hassle. You should always verify your mental heath benefits coverage before you seek treatment to avoid unnecessary expenses.

Do you bill insurance for PPO out-of-network services?

Yes. When possible we will submit the bill to your insurance company saving you the inconvenience of submitting a request for reimbursement. However, if your insurance company denies the claim, you will be required to pay for services and then file a dispute with your insurance company. The rate of reimbursement varies among insurance plans so you should verify your benefits with your insurance company prior to beginning therapy so you know what to expect.
